Eduardo Camavinga pledges to work hard and earn another call-up

Becoming the youngest France debutant in 106 years, Eduardo Camavinga knows to keep his head down and work hard. Camavinga is eager to earn another call-up for the national squad and knows that he will have to keep shining with Rennes.

The teen became France’s youngest debutant since 1914 by earning his first cap at the age of 17 years and 303 days in the 4-2 Nations League win over Croatia on Tuesday.

The Rennes prodigy has already caught the eyes of some elite clubs and is reportedly linked to Real Madrid. The youngster was awarded an opportunity after Manchester United star Paul Pogba had to opt-out of the competition as he tested positive for the coronavirus.

Camavinga replaced N’Golo Kante in the 63rd minute against Croatia to make his first senior international appearance. Camavinga looked good on the ball and there were barely any questions that could be asked regarding his selection over several uncapped players.

He was flaring with confidence and his movement was exquisite too. After the game, while talking to TF1, he said, “First of all, I feel joy and pride for my family. I have no idea where this confidence comes from, I have often played with the oldest, it allowed me to have a greater maturity. It was pretty crazy this first week at Clairefontaine (the France team’s training base), I had already come with the youth team. I was very well received and it went well.”

Croatia took the lead at the Stade de France through a silky finish from Dejan Lovren but it was followed by two French goals, one scored by Antoine Griezmann and the other one was shot by Anthony Martial but struck Dominik Livakovic after hitting the post, making it count as an own goal. Both of France's goals were scored in the space of three minutes.

The second half saw France progressing furthermore as the game ended with the same scoreline as the 2018 World Cup final between the same teams, France 4-2 Croatia.
