Chelsea looking to break their wage structure for Kai Havertz
Premier League giants Chelsea are looking likely to shatter their transfer record after agreeing a £90 million fee for Kai Havertz with Bayer Leverkusen.
The Blues will not only shatter their transfer record for the German sensation but will also bust the club’s pay policy with a massive £310,000 a week pay deal worth £80.6 million over five years.
The West London club have taken a big step forward in their pursuit of the Bayer Leverkusen star and could announce the signing this week. It is claimed that paperwork and signatures are all that is needed to make Havertz the third major transfer of 2020 for the Blues as he follows Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner through the door at Stamford Bridge.
The Blues are also on the brink of wrapping up the free transfer of Paris Saint-Germain centre-back Thiago Silva who is now aged 35.
Chelsea will fork out an initial £72.2 million for the German wonderkid, followed by £9m in add-ons if they qualify for the Champions League and then reach the knockouts.
Winning trophies will trigger further payments for the generational talent likened to former Bayer Leverkusen and Chelsea great Michael Ballack.
The total racks up to more than £90 million, beating the previous club record of £76 million the Blues paid for keeper Kepa Arrizabalaga two years ago.
Chelsea boss Frank Lampard is on a mission to transform his team into title challengers, with spending of more than £178 million since February and he is looking for further additions.
The former Chelsea midfielder also wants a £50 million deal done for Leicester City left-back Ben Chilwell.
Sergio Regulion of Real Madrid, who spent the last season on loan at Sevilla winning the Europa League, has also been named as an alternative while the likes of Nicolas Tagliafico and Robin Gosens have all been linked but it seems that Chelsea are looking to sign their primary target Chilwell even if he costs way more than the rest.
