So here is a look at the Man City vs Liverpool Player Ratings for the Community Shield.
Manchester City vs Liverpool: Player Ratings
Manchester City Player Ratings
Ederson
The City goalkeeper didn’t do too much wrong during the game, however, paid the price for his team's defensive lapses. Ederson could have hardly done anything about the goals but will could have done better.
Rating: 6.5/10
Joao Cancelo
Very sloppy, with his overall play. Cancelo went from the obscene to the terrible, and unfortunately today the latter was true more often.
Rating: 5/10
Kyle Walker
Kyle Walker was poor with his passing at the start of the match but later improved, which was not worth as City were starring down the barrel to defeat. Walker could have done better had he put in crosses for Erling Haaland.
Rating: 6/10
Ruben Dias
The City defender was guilty of a penalty and did his side no favour. Trusted at the back, Dias was far from his best and ultimately paid the price for his errors which cost City the match.
Rating: 4.5/10
Nathan Ake
Nathan Ake had a poor last season and this was again a poor start for Ake as he struggled with his passing and ability. Ake failed to keep the likes of Salah and Nunez silent and made unforced errors take resulted in City’s downfall on Saturday.
Rating: 6/10
Rodri
Among the best of a bad bunch. Against a team like Liverpool, who counter so often, it was very clear how little support he had in the turnovers.
Rating: 6.5/10
Bernardo Silva
Among the many City players who were guilty of giving away possession far too much, which is extremely uncharacteristic of Bernardo, though his defensive contribution is worth crediting.
Rating: 5.5/10
Kevin De Bruyne
A long way from his best, which surprised me given his form in preseason. Passes he usually makes in his sleep were going astray. That said, he played a great ball in the buildup to the equalizer.
Rating: 7/10
Riyad Mahrez
Didn’t click for the Algerian in the community shield, though he was busier than most in the first half, his shots did very little to worry Adrian.
Rating: 5.5/10
Erling Haaland
Early signs are that the team will have to adapt to Haaland, not the other way around. Forward runs are his biggest strength and he’s nullified if his teammates don’t play him in, but other than a bad late miss he didn’t do much wrong.
Rating: 7/10
Jack Grealish
Another player who looked good in pre-season, Jack didn’t carry that form into this game. I’m not convinced he’ll reach his best as long as he’s paired with Cancelo, with the two seeming to get in each other’s way almost constantly.
Rating: 6/10
Liverpool player Ratings
Adrian
Very uncomfortable on the ball and definitely should have dealt with Alvarez's goal, Adrian was one of Liverpool’s weak link in the match.
Rating: 6/10
Trent Alexander-Arnold
Took his goal very well and was a menace in attack, but again was suspect defensively, notably halting in the lead up to City's equalizer.
Rating: 7.5/10
Joel Matip
Joel Matip wasn't afraid to get into the thick of the battle and solid at the back for the Reds.
Rating: 8/10
Virgil van Dijk
Best as ever and kept the opposition including Erling Halaand silent in the back.
Rating: 8.5/10
Andy Robertson
A little wasteful going forward, however, the Scotsman was at par for the course defensively and also set up Nunez for the third Liverpool goal .
Rating: 7/10
Fabinho
Wasn't the imperious rock he could be but he didn't really need to be.
Rating: 7/10
Jordan Henderson
Ran around and led the press, but those were his only meaningful contributions.
Rating: 7/10
Thiago
Bossed the midfield battle, putting in excellent work at both ends of the pitch.
Rating: 8/10
Mohamed Salah
Made Cancelo's life miserable and was eventually rewarded with a goal from the spot.
Rating: 8.5/10
Roberto Firmino
Didn't provide too much on the ball but dropped deep and pressed well.
Rating: 7/10
Luis Diaz
Energetically wasteful and demanded the ball plenty but his end product was seriously lacking.
Rating: 7/10
Darwin Nunez
Goal on completive debut, and also earning a penalty, Darwin Nunez was the icing on the cake for Liverpool on Saturday.
Rating: 8/10
