England Team for the Euro 2021 - Can Southgate's men end the 51 year-long trophy drought?
The squad selection of England for the Euro 2021 has created a lot of buzz on social media. There was high anticipation so as to which players would make the cut to Gareth Southgate's England team for the Euro 2021.
As the Euro Championship is set to commence from June 11, let us have a look at Southgate's England squad for the Euro 2021.
Goalkeeping department
The goalkeeping squad have been headlined by The Three Lions' regular options - Jordan Pickford (Everton), Dean Henderson (Manchester United), and Sam Johnstone (West Brom).
Southgate has publicly told that he might even start Dean Henderson over Pickford if the situation permits.
Defensive Unit of England
The defensive selections were much of a head scratch for Southgate ahead of the Euro 2021, especially at the right-back position.
The England defense comprises of Manchester United's Harry Maguire, the recently crowned Champions League winners Ben Chilwell and Reece James along with Atletico Madrid's Kieran Tripper and Premier League winner Kyle Walker.
There was much of a discussion over the selection of Trent Alexander-Arnold for Southgate, where he eventually managed to get himself in the final England squad for the Euro 2021.
Consistent performances of Luke Shaw, John Stones, and Conor Coady in the domestic Competitions earned them a spot in the England Squad for the Euros
Midfield Engine Room
Let us turn our heads to the England midfield for the Euro 2021. The only renowned and experienced name in the England squad with International experience is the Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson.
Henderson has not been at his best this year suffering from injuries and not performing consistently. Followed by Henderson - the player who gave Manchester City a run in the Champions League Jude Bellingham (Borussia Dortmund), Chelsea's Player of the Season Mason Mount followed by inexperienced Kalvin Phillips (Leeds United) and Declan Rice (West Ham)
English Forward Line
Most of the top teams in the Euro 2021 - France, Germany, and Portugal, have a limited strike force at the forward position but are stacked up in the midfield department. Here, for England, the situation is reversed and the forwards in their squad have already announced themselves globally.
The England forward line-up will be spearheaded by Premier League Golden Boot winner Harry Kane (Tottenham Hotspur), Manchester United forward, Marcus Rashford, Raheem Sterling (Manchester City) to name a few. One of the surprises in the squad was the selection of Bukayo Sako (Arsenal)
Key Players from England Squad for Euro 2021
Harry Kane
Harry Kane is still trophyless. He has still not won any accolades in his career despite giving outstanding performances throughout his career.
The experienced forward has something to prove at the International stage and might land up a transfer matching his worth this summer with a stellar showing at the Euros.
Kane's performances and goals will be the key for England if they want to go all the way in the Euro 2021.
Mason Mount
Mason Mount has had an amazing season, but a lopsided one. He had his chances and made sure he grabbed them with open arms.
The 22-year-old lad provided the magical assist that won Chelsea the Champions League and has been grabbing headlines every time he steps on the field. His potential growth on the International Stage would be one to watch.
Mount deserves a starting place in Southgate's England Squad for the Euro 2021, due to his consistent performances this season for Chelsea.
Trent Alexander-Arnold
What a route Trent Alex-Arnold has got himself into. Just the past year, he was an automatic selection in the squad. He was a no-brainer for Southgate to include him in every match they played in. However this season he struggled to find his form until things got serious for Liverpool by April.
When the stakes were high for Liverpool, Trent's performances in the last 12 games of the Premier League were enough for him to get himself set in the Final England Squad for the Euro 2021. But the test starts now, will he prove his worth?
