Liverpool’s Premier League (PL) title challenge could face a decisive outcome on the weekend as they host defending champions Manchester City at Anfield on Sunday.

 Anything less than a win for Jurgen Klopp’s men will see their title challenge hopes all but gone as they are already 14 points behind league leaders Arsenal. A defeat for the 2020 PL champions would come at a big cost while rivals Manchester City will be ready to pounce on any slip-up from Arsenal and claim the top spot in the league.

In 52 meetings in the PL era, the reds have clinched the fixture on 21 occasions, while City have won the fixture 11 times. A concerning factor is the away wins as City have escaped with three points on just two occasions from Anfield with their last PL win coming in February 2021.

Moreover, the two have shared an intense PL title rivalry in recent years, in the last nine seasons, on three occasions the title race has gone to the final day. Last season, only a point separated the two teams at the end of the season. Last season’s both meetings ended all square, while Pep’s side won their sixth PL title.

With a midweek 7-1 thumping of Rangers in the Champions League, the time is right for Klopp and his men to make a statement with a win.

Manchester City on the flip side remain the only team still unbeaten in the PL and will look to add to their tally of wins on Sunday. So far they have dropped points against Newcastle and Aston Villa, both away from home. A win on Sunday and Arsenal dropping points would see the champions return to the summit with a quarter of the season gone.
