FC Barcelona winger Carles Perez to join AS Roma
Young Barcelona winger Carles Perez is reported to be going to travel to Italy soon for a medical examination at AS Roma.
The Italian club has agreed personal terms with the player and has also reached an agreement with Barcelona over the transfer fee. The player’s transfer is more or less final, subject to the medical.
Perez joined the Barcelona academy as a teenager and made his way through the ranks to break into the club’s first team last season.
Although the 21-year old played in just one game last season, he featured regularly in the ongoing season under previous Barcelona manager Ernesto Valverde, as some of the first team starters were sidelined due to injury.
Valverde was so impressed with Perez that he had offered him a contract extension very early in the season and the youngster had agreed to it as well.
However, Perez suddenly seems to have fallen out of favor under new manager Quieque Setien. The reports suggest Barcelona and Roma have agreed on a transfer fee close to £11 million for the winger.
Barcelona has, however, put a buy-back clause in the deal, as per which they will be able to land Perez back at Camp Nou at a fee close to £21 million, if they want to do that in future.
Perez has been rated highly by the academy coaches of Barcelona and has been tipped as someone who could develop into a regular starter for the club in future. So, Barcelona opting for a buy-back clause while selling him is not really a surprise.
Perez has, so far, found the back of the net twice in 13 appearances he has made for Barcelona. Eleven out of those 13 appearances have been in La Liga.
