David Goffin vs Denis Shapovalov: US Open Preview and Prediction

Seventh seed David Goffin will set the temperatures soaring as he clashes against 12th seed Denis Shapovalov in a scintillating fourth-round clash at the US Open. 

In a challenging first-round match against Reilly Opelka, Goffin withstood a flurry of aces as he won the encounter in four sets. With an impressive first serve winning percentage of 82, the Belgian was on song. He came out on top winning another four-setter against Lloyd Harris in the second round. 

Goffin made short work of 26th seed Filip Krajinovic in the third round winning 6-1 7-6 6-4 smashing 36 winners.

On the other hand, Shapovalov has been comfortable winning long matches in this tournament. He began his campaign with a four-set win against American, Sebastian Korda. The Canadian won another four-setter against Kwon Son-Woo smashing 20 aces and 62 winners after losing the first set. The youngster's big-match experience came in handy as he ousted local hope, Taylor Fritz in a marathon five-setter in the third round. Once again, Shapovalov's serve came to his rescue as he hit 22 aces. His breakpoint conversion was impressive as he converted six out of nine opportunities. 

Consistency has been Goffin's hallmark reaching the fourth round of the US Open continuously for the last four years.

Goffin leads the head to head record 1-0 against Shapovalov. While Goffin is known for his relentless attacking game from the baseline, Shapovalov relies more on the serve and volley combo along with a bit of netplay. Despite possessing an all-round game, the 21-year-old's shot selection can be poor sometimes. While his attacking game has won him plaudits, he could get reckless committing a huge number of unforced errors. Goffin's serve lacks speed and consistency. His consistent groundstrokes and experience in the US Open would help him against an aggressive Shapovalov. 

Both the players are immensely talented and just need to apply their game on the big stage. With a quarters spot in store, they will look to give their best.
