Juventus provide a positive update about Daniele Rugani and Blaise Matuidi
Daniele Rugani became one of the first high-profile footballers to contract the virus, after testing positive in early March. The following week it was reported that Blaise Matuidi also contracted the virus, while Paulo Dybala later tested positive.
Juventus have now confirmed that defender Rugani and midfielder Matuidi have recovered completely from the virus. The coronavirus forced governments from around the world to announce a lockdown, as every corner of the world still tries to combat the disease.
Italy has been affected in one of the worst ways possible, though there have been improvements in recent days. Juventus confirmed that both players have taken another test for the coronavirus and both have come back negative. As a result, there is no need for them to be subjected to the home isolation regime.
On the club’s official website, they announced: “Daniele Rugani and Blaise Matuidi underwent, as per protocol, a double-check with diagnostic tests for the coronavirus. The tests came back with negative results. The players have, therefore, recovered and are no longer subjected to the isolation regime.”
Rugani told that he felt ‘lucky’ and explained how he missed all the people who are very close to him as he was staying away from them in a hotel. The Italian has struggled for game time this season, being a part of just seven games in all competitions before football was suspended indefinitely.
Having played only three games in the Serie A out of the total seven, it is reported that the player is already thinking of leaving Juventus. Matuidi has been far more heavily involved than the defender, making 31 appearances in all competitions. The Frenchman’s contract was about to expire at the end of this season but the club opted to exercise a one-year extension clause written into his current deal.
In this time of huge difficulties, this will surely come as a hugely positive update.
