Klopp to go on a sabbatical after Liverpool contract ends

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has four more years left at his contract but he intends to reevaluate his career once those four years end. Klopp also revealed that he may quit management and will look forward to doing something else. The 53-year-old has won the Premier League, Champions League, Club World Cup and UEFA Super Cup in five seasons at Anfield and is still under contract until 2024.

Klopp dominated headlines this season as he helped Liverpool win their first Premier League title after a 30-year long wait. However, a new deal is not on his cards and he feels he may just step away from the sport totally.

While talking to Sport Buzzer he said, 

“I’ll take a year off and ask myself if I miss football. If I say no, then that will be the end of coach Jurgen Klopp. If one day I am no longer a coach, there is one thing I will not miss, the brutal tension immediately before the game.”

Liverpool have resumed their pre-season training after a short end-of-season break and return to action in just three weeks’ time. Despite the unusual short break the players are getting, Klopp feels the boys are ready to defend their Premier League title. 

“The whole club is hot for the new season and wants to do even better. We want to chase the opponents and the ball all over the place and continue to be a super uncomfortable team that is not fun to play. We are not just defending titles, we want to get new ones, we’ve only just started winning.”

Klopp was recently awarded the Premier League Manager of the Season and is widely considered to be one of the best coaches in world football after the success with Liverpool. Talking about it he said, “It was that not long ago Klopp could not win a final and certainly not the Premier League in his life.” 

“I’m a better coach now than ten years ago, the overall Klopp package is more coherent, more complex. Players, trainers, physios, masseurs, doctors, video analysts, people in nutritional advice, communication, everywhere. We are sensationally positioned at Liverpool FC. I trust my employees 100 percent. LFC is far from a one-man show.”
