Klopp urges Liverpool to break the Premier League all-time points tally record
Liverpool need just two more victories to secure the title but Jurgen Klopp feels he and his side want to end the season with another winning streak. Klopp wants the Reds to close the season with nine straight wins to smash the Premier League points record.
The title will be the club’s first top-flight title in 30 years but Klopp expects much more from his team. Liverpool have 27 points left to play for and the German wants to take them all, which would mean a total of 107 and that will exceed Manchester City’s all-time best tally of 100 from the 2017-18 campaign.
The fixtures are all set to resume from June 17 following a lengthy coronavirus break but now Liverpool are approaching close to the glory they have been dreaming for years. However, Klopp knows there’s work to be done properly.
While talking to BBC Sport, Klopp said, “It’s nice to think about it but we are not champions yet and we know that. We know we are close but close is not there. There are 27 points left for us and we will try everything to take them all. We are still not champions. We have to play football games and we have to win them.”
“We don’t want to stop winning after two games or whatever it is. I don’t see results written in the stars, we have to work really hard.” Klopp and company have a massive 25 point lead but they seemed to struggle in the last few games before the league was halted. Lost their unbeaten league record to Watford then suffered defeat to Chelsea in the FA Cup and also crashed out of the Champions League, losing at Anfield after a very long time.
However, three matches can never cover up the fact that the Reds have lost only and drawn only one game in the league out of the 29 games played. That is simply enough to prove their supremacy this season.
