Liverpool skipper Jordan Henderson out for the rest of the season

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that the club captain Jordan Henderson will miss the remainder of the season as a result of a knee injury he suffered against Brighton this week. The English midfielder will not be undergoing surgery.

The positive part here is that the remainder of Liverpool’s 2019-20 season is only four games and being confirmed as the Premier League champions already, the Reds will not have a problem. One more update from Klopp has been that despite the injury, Henderson will be present to lift the Premier League season and also hopes that the skipper will be fit until the start of a new season.

Liverpool are currently keen on chasing down Manchester City’s 2017-18 season record of winning 100 points in the league and the Reds are in the front seat to break it.

The game against the Seagulls was a difficult one for the Reds. Liverpool went two goals ahead in the opening eight minutes of the game. However, Brighton managed to concede only one more after it and scored one too, just before the half time whistle.

Henderson’s injury came in the final ten minutes of the game as a result of a clash and thus, the midfielder was replaced by James Milner, after scoring his fourth goal in the Premier League this season. Liverpool were waiting for the scan results to come to assess the damage. However, the results are not the worst but are not great either.

Klopp when asked about it in a video press conference said, “It’s the best possible of the bad news. Knee injury but no surgery needed. He won’t play again this season but I am pretty positive he will start the new season for us.

Henderson will be missing the games against Burnley, Arsenal, Chelsea and finally Newcastle United at St.James' Park on July 26.

It is expected that the Premier League 2020/21 season will be starting relatively quicker and a starting date of 12 September is the current target the league is working towards. This gives Henderson a total of around nine weeks to to be ready in time to start the Liverpool's title defense.
