Off to Qatar! Mario Mandzukic silently quits Juventus
After falling out of favor at Juventus following the arrival of Maurizio Sarri, forward Mario Mandzukic has moved to Qatar.
A lot of rumors and speculations were made regarding his move to Manchester United, since the departure of their former number nine, Romelu Lukaku.
The Croatian international won four Serie A titles and the Coppa Italia on three occasions during a super successful four-and-a-half-year spell in Turin. However, Mandzukic hasn’t looked like an option to Sarri, failing to make even a single appearance for the first team and was also left out of the Champions League squad.
The 33-year-old has now moved to Qatar to resume his career. Al-Duhail confirmed the signing of the Croatian forward from Juventus yesterday. While his former club, Juventus did not immediately announce his departure, Al-Duhail tweeted a picture of the striker signing his contract. However, the details of the contract are not disclosed.
Mario Mandzukic was a crucial part of Croatia’s dream World Cup run to the final last year, scoring three times in the competition. The most important goal being the one that knocked England out of the World Cup, in additional extra-time of the semi-final.
One of Mandzukic’s best moments with the club was the bicycle kick he scored against Real Madrid in the Champions League final at Cardiff that eventually ended in Madrid’s favor, courtesy of a brace by record UCL goal scorer, Cristiano Ronaldo.
Before becoming a part of the Juventus squad, the forward had been a member of the Bayern Munich squad and Wolfsburg in the Bundesliga as well as a season with Atletico Madrid in La Liga.
