"I only scored two in my whole career," Tuchel on Neymar's goal-drought

Neymar has not scored in his last three Champions League games for PSG and that has sparked the question of when the Brazilian will end his goal drought. The PSG boss backed Neymar to emerge from the lack of goals and help PSG win their first Champions League title on Sunday.

Considering how high Neymar’s standards are, going three games without scoring is very unusual as the Brazilian is getting ample chances in almost every game he’s playing. He had plenty of chances in Tuesday’s 3-0 semi-final victory over Leipzig too.

PSG were dominant enough to not get punished for the chances he missed. However, Neymar did set one of the goals for Angel Di Maria. Tuchel believes as far as the team goes over the line, it doesn’t matter as to who scores the goal.

But considering Neymar’s form he should be bagging goals for his club and the longer he goes without a goal, more and more pressure will arise, not by his team-mates but via the media as Neymar barely fails to make the headlines.

Tuchel in his post-match conference said, “With the quality he has and the confidence he has, he will be more clinical again. He has the possibility to become one of the best players in the world and this team, together with Mbappe, it’s great and if he scores in the final then I’m happy.”

Tuchel, who was a lower-league defender in Germany in his playing days, Tuchel joked that how could he tell one of the best finishers in the world how to put away chances. He said, “I only scored two in my whole career. I can’t really help him with that. Maybe Kylian can give him some advice.”

Neymar may have not scored recently but the ex-Barcelona star has been very important for PSG in all the games he’s been a part of and again, against Leipzig, he was highly influential and would have been well worth his name on the scoresheet.

“In training, he scores. He plays exceptionally well and he’s extremely strong on the pitch. He just has this strong mentality, this strong character. He has this winning spirit and mentality.”
