Man City to take on Arsenal as Premier League resumes on June 17

The Premier League is set to return on June 17 which is a Wednesday, with Aston Villa hosting Sheffield United and Manchester City taking on Arsenal at the Etihad, as per a report. The 2019-20 season was brought to a halt in March due to the coronavirus pandemic, while ‘Project Restart’ has been functioning in full flow with approval of contact training.

In the latest meeting, an exact return date was expected to be announced and that is what happened. The Telegraph has reported the season will resume with the match without which it was suspended.

The season is expected to be concluded by 1 August and it is said that the FA Cup final will be held a week later. The dates have been managed well and support UEFA’s plan to have the Champions League sewn up by the start of September. News that is yet to be made official was the venues where the games will be played.

As per reports, the games will be played at their original venue itself. However, some high-profile games may be played on neutral grounds to avoid fans gathering outside the stadium. That would break the social distancing guidelines and increase the already existing problems. The mayor of Liverpool almost confirmed this possibility when he told that the chances of fans gathering are very high if and when the Reds win their maiden Premier League title.

However, the authorities are convinced for the matches to be played where they were decided except some of the high-profile games, games that usually attract a huge crowd. The Bundesliga which returned this month faced no such issues though, as fans strictly respected the government guidelines and stayed away from the stadiums.
