Ronaldo limps off with an injury as Juventus are held to a 1-1 draw by Lazio

It hasn't been a great last few weeks for Cristiano Ronaldo. Just days after recovering from a coronavirus infection, Ronaldo was seen limping off the field as Juventus were denied victory by a last-gasp Felipe Caicedo in a 1-1 draw at Lazio, a goal for which many would blame Paulo Dybala. 

The Portuguese skipper has scored in every league game in 2020 he’s been a part of and things didn’t go the other way in this game too. 

He scored in the first four league games of a season just for the third time though, having done it in 2009-10 and 2014-15 seasons. The forward has 27 goals this year and no other player in Europe’s top five leagues has more. 

However, his injury was a big blow to the team and he will most certainly miss Portugal’s upcoming friendly game. Further updates will be provided when a detailed report pertaining to his injury is revealed. 

Post-match, when Juventus boss Andrea Pirlo was asked about the seriousness of Ronaldo’s injury, he said, “Ronaldo is a key player not only for us but for all the teams where he played, he had an ankle problem and he was forced to leave. Those who entered the pitch did well but we had problems holding the ball and manage certain types of plays.” 

The Old Lady are currently four points adrift of Stefano Pioli’s reformed AC Milan. The Bianconeri are unbeaten in seven for the eighth time in the last ten seasons but Pirlo was honest enough to accept that such key moments have a huge influence on the game. 

Lazio was without their star man Ciro Immobile who along with Lucas Leiva and Thomas Strakhosha were not permitted due to inconclusive COVID-19 tests. 

It was a small moment of joy for Caicedo too as his stoppage-time equalizer was the fifth time since the 2019-20 season that he scored after the 90th minute which is the most by a player in Serie A. 

Simone Inzaghi, the Lazio boss whose team has won 33 points from losing positions since the start of last season, more than any other team in Europe’s top five leagues also acknowledged the Lazio goal scorer’s abilities.
