Serena Williams at US Open

Over the years US Open has seen outright domination from the Williams as both Serena and Venus Williams have had their moments.

Participating in her 25th US Open, over the years Serena has played in 10 finals at the Arthur Ash Stadium, winning on six occasions while losing four finals. Her first triumph in the US Open came in 1999 as she beat Martina Hingis in the final.

In an extraordinary set of finals in 2001 and 2022, it was the Williams sisters who glittered the stage. While Serena lost the first final, she exacted revenge in the next on her sister in the 2002 showpiece.

Serena would later manage to win four more titles, three of which came in three consecutive years from 2012 to 2014. Overall she has won 106 matches while losing 14 matches at the US Open, which comprises 14 semifinal appearances.

Serena Williams: Record in US Open finals

Ever since making her first US Open final appearance in 1999, Serena Williams has gone on to play in nine more finals.

While there have been controversial defeats for Serena against Naomi Osaka and Samantha Stosur, she has also brought her ‘A-Game’ into play to dominate opponents like  Martina Hingis, Victoria Azarenka, and Caroline Wozniacki.

Serena also enjoyed a special run at the finals when she played and won three consecutive finals between 2012 and 2014, just a glimpse of how she dominated hard-court tennis. While circumstances will be against the US sensation this time around, she will still fancy her chances of going all the way.

Can Serena bow out on high?

While it looks like the trophy-laden career will get over sooner rather than later, it cannot be denied that Serena still possesses the champion's credentials.

Winning the US Open will be a tough ask for Serena Williams but if she does manage to go all the way she will equal Margaret Court’s tally of 24 Grand Slams.

However, realistically it looks like Margaret’s record will stay intact, as a win looks unlikely. So it remains to be seen how the 23-time Grand Slam champions are out of the game as she hangs out her rackets for one last time.
