T20 WC 2022 |Qualification scenarios for all the teams
The 8th edition of the T20 World Cup has seen many upsets and many games getting washed out due to rain, which has made each team's qualification to the semi-finals very interesting and challenging.
This year's edition of the T20 World Cup is one of the rare occasions where every team in the table can qualify for the semis, even when they are few matches left in the super 12.
This has ensured that there are no dead-rubber matches in the super 12 and each match has some weightage to the teams playing the match or it has an effect on other teams in their group.
Here are the qualification scenarios for each team from group 1 and group 2
Group 1

New Zealand
The qualification scenario for New Zealand is pretty straightforward. The kiwis have 1 game remaining and they must beat Ireland to qualify for the semi-finals.
England
England can qualify for the semi-finals if
- England beat Sri Lanka in their upcoming game.
- They should hope that either Afghanistan beat Australia or Australia beat Afghanistan but not by a huge margin so that the net run rate of Australia does not overtake England.
Australia
For Australia to qualify for the semi-finals, they must
- Beat Afghanistan by 104 runs to get to 7 points to overtake England in Net Run Rate.
- Hope that Sri Lanka beat England and that the Aussies can beat Afghanistan by any margin to qualify for the semi-finals.
Sri Lanka
The qualification scenario for Sri Lanka is a bit complicated as their qualification depends on the results of other matches in their group. In order for the Asia Cup winners to qualify for the semi-finals, they must
- Beat England
- Hope that Australia and England lose their remaining matches.
Ireland and Afghanistan
Ireland and Afghanistan are eliminated from the T20 World Cup. These 2 teams will play for pride and look to spoil the chances of the other teams to qualify for the semi-finals.

India
The qualification scenario for India is pretty straightforward. India have 1 game remaining and they should beat Zimbabwe to qualify for the semi-finals.
South Africa
The chances for South Africa to qualify for the semi-finals are very high. If they win either 1 of their 2 matches against Pakistan or the Netherlands, they will qualify for the semi-finals.
Bangladesh
The qualification scenario for Bangladesh is a bit complicated as their qualification depends on the results of other matches in their group. In order for Bangladesh to qualify, they must
- Beat Pakistan in their upcoming match
- Hope that South Africa loses their remaining matches against Netherlands and Pakistan.
Zimbabwe
The chances for Zimbabwe to qualify for the Semi-finals are pretty slim. They must:
- Beat India in their next match
- Hope that South Africa loses their remaining matches against Netherlands and Pakistan.
Pakistan
In order for Pakistan to qualify for the semifinals they must:
- Beat South Africa and Bangladesh in their upcoming matches.
- Hope that the Netherlands beat South Africa.
Netherlands
The Netherlands are eliminated from the T20 World Cup. They have nothing to lose and will hope to spoil the chances of other teams to qualify for the semi-finals.
