Thiago Motta leading candidate to become next Juventus manager
Motta is currently managing Bologna. Thiago Motta is said to be the hot favourite to take over as the next Bianconeri manager, and it appears that the Serie A powerhouse Juventus will be his next destination for him. Juve and Milan have both been linked to Motta, and it appears that the Old Lady is the hot seat to clinch the signatures of Thiago Motta. Gianluca di Marzio also recently spoke with Sky Italia (via IlBianconero) regarding Max Allegri’s future and potential successor as Old Lady head.
He claimed that the life cycle of both Juventus and Milan under their current managers are about to come to a close. Currently, Motta is the front-runner to take over as Juve’s manager, and Allegri is more or less set to leave at the end of the current campaign, even if Bianconeri executives have said otherwise and defended their under fire current Italian boss on face value the Italian in interviews. Even Milan may be in two minds whether to name Julen Lopetegui as their next manager given that the supporters don’t seem to be enthused with the current name that is being thrown into the ring as far as Milan are concerned.
Max Allegri and Stefano Pioli may be shown the exit door at the end of the season, as Di Marzio maintained that both teams have reached the end of a cycle. In addition, Di Marzio disclosed that Motta had already hinted of his availability for Juventus, reiterating Allegri’s termination from Continassa. The 41-year-old is having a fantastic season with Bologna, who are about to achieve a historic Champions League qualifying.
They currently sit pretty at fourth five points clear of AS Roma and are breathing down the neck of Juventus FC with only a single point separating them. Therefore, it seems safe to say that Juventus have already decided who they want to replace Max with if they do indeed decide to part ways with their long time gaffer with Allegri in a few months.
Whatever your opinion regarding Motta’s willingness to be open to a move to a team like disarray like Juventus, where he will be expected to rebuild a team that is a complete mess. It will require numerous additional support come the summer transfer window is something to ponder upon though his accomplishments with Bologna cannot be disregarded.
One thing to take note of which puts the work Thiago Motta has done with Bologna into perspective is that with their current fourth-place finish, he has managed to get this squad with the eighth-lowest salary bill in Serie A into the Champions League. (Really, Bologna’s entire payroll is less than Juventus’s combined wages for Paul Pogba, Adrien Rabiot, and Dusan Vlahovic.)
