Who is Tagenarine Chanderpaul? All you need to know

Tagenarine Chanderpaul was announced in the West Indies test squad to face Australia. Born in Guyana, he is the son of the legendary West Indian batsman, Shivnarine Chanderpaul. 

The West Indian legend has scored over 20,000 runs in international cricket and is the 8th-highest run scorer in Test cricket. He is mostly known for his famous unorthodox stance, facing the batsman front-on, and has an unusual way of taking a guard.

Tagenarine Chanderpaul is a left-handed opening batsman who represents Guyana at the domestic level. The left-hander performed well at the domestic level, scoring 2669 runs in 50 matches at a solid average of 34.21. Tagenarine is said to be a patient batter like his father, batting at the crease for long hours. He can also change gears and bat aggressively when required.

Tagenarine also had an important role in for West Indies in the 2014 U-19 World Cup. His scores of 84 and 93 helped his team to qualify for the knockouts. In 2017, the 26-year-old had the chance to bat with his father. Both of them scored 50s and became the second father-son partnership to score 50s in the same first-class innings (the first being CK and CN Nayudu). 

It will be interesting to see how the young prodigy fares in international cricket. Chanderpaul is up for a challenge, facing Australia at home, against a world-class bowling line-up.
