Wimbledon 2021: SportCo Power Rankings: Semifinals: Barty vs Kerber and Sabalenka vs Pliskova

We are all set for the women’s semifinals at Wimbledon 2021 as two exciting matches await the fans. Top seed Ashleigh Barty takes on the 25th seed Angelique Kerber in the first semifinal. 

This blockbuster clash will be followed by another intriguing encounter. The second seed Aryna Sabalenka faces the 9th seed Karolina Pliskova in the second semifinal.   

Interestingly, all four quarterfinals in the women’s section ended in straight sets each. Hence, a close fight can be expected in the semis as it is a battle between heavyweights.

1) Ashleigh Barty vs Angelique Kerber: Kerber leads the H2H 3-2

• Ashleigh Barty is playing her first-ever Wimbledon semifinal.
• Kerber is a former Wimbledon champion (2018). The German is featuring in her 4th Wimbledon semis (2012, 2016, and 2018).

• Kerber has won 80 matches on grass courts. She is the third highest on the WTA Tour behind Serena Williams and Venus Williams.

2) Aryna Sabalenka vs Karolina Pliskova: Sabalenka leads the H2H 2-0
Major Insights: 

• Both their previous clashes went to three sets each.
• Pliskova is the only player to not lose a set in Wimbledon 2021.
• Both Sabalenka and Pliskova are playing their maiden Wimbledon semifinal.
• Pliskova will feature in her 4th grand slam semifinal.
