Mohamed Salah likely to stay at Liverpool for at least 'one' more season
The Egyptian King has been rumoured to be on the move, possibly to middle-east.
Mohamed Salah’s verbal tussle with Jurgen Klopp during Liverpool’s 2-2 draw with West Ham a couple of matches ago made headlines. It has fuelled the rumour mill ever since then as he continues to be linked with a move away from Anfield as the summer transfer window dawns upon us.
After passing some remarks that are unusual uncharacteristic of the smiling Egyptian to the media in the mixed zone of London Stadium, the Egyptian’s future at Anfield became more and more a burning hot subject of speculation as he approached the end of his contract.
Though neither the player nor the team has explicitly stated their intention to formally call it quits, the Athletic’s David Ornstein wrote that the Reds completely expect the 31-year-old to stay on Merseyside for at least another campaign.
The reliable journalist shared a link to the article via X, posting: “EXCL: Liverpool expect Mo Salah to stay & are planning with him for at least another campaign. 31yo has given no indication of wanting out + contract to be addressed in due course. Saudi view is Salah intends to remain at #LFC next season.”
Although it’s “less ambitious” now than it was eight months ago in terms of acquiring all the elites of Europe, the Saudi Pro League has still shown an interest in securing Salah's signature after Al-Ittihad’s unsuccessful £150 million offer last year. Middle Eastern teams might be willing to play the waiting game for Salah’s in hopes he runs down current Liverpool contract and let's it expire.
Following a less than stellar April where he managed to bag only two goals in eight games and his overall play having massively suffered asper the eye test, the touchline bust-up with Klopp on Saturday has resulted in the once inoperable pair growing more distant by the day.
Some might suggest that this is the right time to freshen things up and also make good profit while doing so by deciding to cash in on the Egyptian this summer if they were to receive a suitable offer. The Liverpool wide forward turns 32 in June and would be free to sign elsewhere when his contract expires 2025 if he is not sold earlier. So the Reds will undoubtedly want to get at least something if they were to depart with such a valuable asset than to let him leave for nothing end of next season.
Nevertheless, considering his monumental impact amongst the Anfield faithful, despite his current dip, he’s a player that still has it in him and who really shouldn’t be someone they should be actively trying to offload. Unless the higher ups in Richard Hughes and Michael Edwards are positive that they have an adequate replacement lined up in case they do decide to let Salah off the books.
