Andrey Rublev vs Sam Querrey: French Open Preview and Prediction
Thirteenth seed Andrey Rublev sets up a riveting clash against the big-serving Sam Querrey at the French Open.
Fresh from a triumph in the Hamburg Open where he stunned Stefanos Tsitsipas in three sets, Rublev is arriving in perfect nick in Paris.
He became the first Russian to clinch the title at Hamburg since Nikolay Davydenko in 2009.
On the other hand, Querrey is coming into this tournament with a straight-set loss against Pedro Martinez Portero in the first round at the Rome Masters.
Head to Head record
Rublev leads the head to head record 2-1 against Querrey. This is their first meeting on the clay surface.
After winning his third title of 2020, Rublev will be brimming with confidence. Despite his exploits on grass and hard-courts, Querrey has not had success on clay.
He has lost in the opening round of the French Open eight times since his debut in 2007.
It is surprising to know that he has not won a match since the resumption of the tour. Hence, he will be looking to turn things around quickly in Roland Garros.
The new Wilson balls will make the American work hard as they are quite heavy and have a low bounce.
Rublev will look to take the initiative from the baseline with his offensive shot-making and speedy footwork. Querrey will depend on his rampaging first-serve and consistent groundstrokes to unsettle Rublev.
Despite not having much time to prepare for this match, Rublev comes with a lot of self-assurance owing to his good touch. He reached his career-best spot of 12 in the recently released ATP rankings.
Rublev will look to start quickly off the blocks. Querrey is a good baseliner and is also smart at finishing off points at the net. The Russian starts as a strong favourite here due to his superior form.
Prediction - Andrey Rublev to win in four sets
